Questions

What is a credit note?

A document that reduces the amount a customer owes on an invoice you have already issued, for example after a return, an overcharge or an agreed discount.

Can I just edit the original invoice instead?

It is better not to. Issuing a credit note keeps your invoice numbers and records consistent, which accountants and tax authorities expect.

Does a credit note need tax on it?

If the original invoice charged sales tax or VAT, the credit note should reverse the tax on the credited amount too.

Is it really free?

Yes. The download is free, and filling it in with the Clausery app is free too, with unlimited documents. Library templates never count towards a plan limit, and no account or card is needed.

Is my information uploaded anywhere?

No. Clausery runs entirely in your browser. Your answers and the finished document are created and stored on your own device.

Is this legal advice?

No. These are general samples. Laws differ between countries and states, so have the wording reviewed for your situation before you rely on it.
